Celebration of the International Youth Day in Burundi.

Burundi joined the world to celebrate the International Youth Day that took place on thursday, August 12, 2021  in Gitega, the political city of Burundi. This year, the celebration of this day was organized around the national theme: “Youth, the future of our country is in our hands. Let’s join our strengths to create self-development projects to in order to promote sustainable development in our country!” The international theme was: “Transforming food systems, youth innovations for human health and that of our planet.”

In our country, this celebration was organized by the Ministry in charge of the youth in collaboration with UNICEF-Burundi and saw the participation of the United Nations Resident coordinator in Burundi, young people from all the communes of the country and other high dignitaries of the country. In his welcoming speech, the Minister in charge of the youth informed the young people that the granting of credits to youth bankable projects within the youth bank “BIJE” has already started. He therefore invited them to present their bankable projects to the bank in order to benefit from the support through the youth bank ” BIJE ” and ” PAEEJ” one of the youth organization.

The ceremonies marking this day were enhanced by the presence of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Burundi Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE. In his speech for the occasion, the Head of State provided several pieces of advice to the youth. He asked the Burundian youth to build their future on positive mindsets in order to create a new generation and not listen to those who want to mislead them by using them in the destruction of the country. He indicated that the youth in Burundi constitutes the pillar of development and a force to work. He encouraged them to keep this path because the Burundian youth of today are very active in development works. He also encouraged them to enter into entrepreneurship, to set up development projects and to create their own businesses, to put their efforts together by gathering in development associations and cooperatives. There is strength in the unity, he reminded them.

Note that a young girl by the name of Sonia Izere received a donation of 1,000,000 Burundian francs from the President of the Republic of Burundi when she showed a sign of bravery by being the first to respond immediately to the question of the President who wanted to know who will be able to develop once given opportunity.
